Usage of Past Tense in Subject Verb Agreement:
As you know a verb must always agree with its subject in number. A singular subject requires a singular verb; a plural subject requires a plural verb.
In the use of past tense, the verb form will generally look the same whether you have a singular or plural subject. Let’s take a look at some examples.

NOTE : An exception is the verb “to be.” When talking about the past, the to be verb changes its form again. This is how it looks with the different subject pronouns.
